Mental health is a stage of emotional and psychological wellbeing, that can affect one’s social life and work. It enables people to cope with stress of life and how people feel, think or behave. Now-a-days mental health has become one of the most serious topics to talk about. In this era, many people are suffering from mental illness problems which is important in every stage of our life from childhood to adulthood even until we get old. It affects how we think, act and feel. Also, it helps to determine how we handle stress and make choices.

 

Symptoms of mental illness 


Signs and symptoms of mental illness can vary, depending on the disorder circumstances and other factors. Mental illness symptoms can affect emotions thoughts and behaviors. There are many symptoms of mental illness like feeling down, excessive fears, feeling hopeless or tearful, reduced ability to concentrate on studies or work, sleeping problems, withdrawal from friends and family members, hallucinations, suicidal thinking and many more.




 

Causes of mental illness


Causes of mental illness are given below:

 

• Unhappiness and decreased enjoyment             
    Symptoms of mental illness can be complex and vary widely between people which can create unhappiness and decreased enjoyment of life.  Because of this problem people started to feeling low, hopeless and loose interest in things.

 

• Family conflicts

This type of conflicts can happen when family members have different views or beliefs that clash. Sometimes conflicts occur when people misunderstand each other and jump to the wrong conclusion. That’s why some people go through mental illness problems because of their family conflicts.

 

• Relationship difficulties

Mental illness can affect many aspects of life, including relationships. Communication is the key to having a healthy and positive relationship despite mental health struggles. Relation difficulties, divorce, communication gap can create mental illness.

 

• Social isolation

Social isolation is a common sign of various mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, eating disorders and many more. Though the isolation is voluntary on the part of sufferer, it can be sign of something deeper. Sometimes it starts with less talk time to friends. Then it can quickly spiral to remaining isolated at home and having little to no social interaction.

 

• Problems with alcohol and other drugs

Some people may drink alcohol and take drugs to relax or help to cope with daily stresses or who faces a high amount of negative emotions can even turn to drinking, smoking or other drugs. Alcohol is a depressant drug that can cause anxietyincrease stress and other health issues. It can negatively affect thoughts, feelings and actions and contribute to the development of, or worsen, existing mental health issues over time.

 

 

• Self-harm and harm to others

When a person deliberately hurts the surface of their body without intending to cause a lethal injury, it is referred to as self- harm. Unfortunately, the symptoms of some mental health disorders can feel intolerable. That’s why because of the mental illness people can harm themselves or other people around them.

 

• Financial problems

Problems related to money can lead to increased mental health problems. Specially depression and anxiety. Those who living with debt are more likely to be depressed or consider death. Research has shown that finances are the number one cause of stress.

 

 

 

Importance of mental health awareness


Mental illness is a physical illness of the brain that causes disturbances in thinking, behavior, energy or emotion that make it difficult to cope with the ordinary demands of life. Mental health has a direct correlation to physical health. Research says that, mental illness affects 19% of the adult population, 46% of teenagers and 13% of children each year. People struggling with their mental health maybe in our family or living next door. 

 

In conclusion, talking openly about mental health can reduce the misconceptions and stigma, and can encourage those who are suffering to seek help and find a support network. Experts says we all have the potential to develop mental health issues, no matter how old we are, if we are male or female, or our background, it doesn’t matter because it can happen to any of us. We always have to remember that we should take care of ourselves not only physical health but also our mental health. It’s important for our family, friends and loved ones to understand the impact that mental health has on daily life. So, the people who are suffering from mental issues can get rid of it easily and able to live a healthy life.
